Dave & Ray http://www.daveandray.com/ were the promoters for the event and on Wednesday nights, Josephine is the place to be. Inauguration Week 2009 in Washington was a moment in time! To see so many faces, so many people and the patriotic smiles on every American face was priceless. Gearshift Producer, Videographer & Photographer Don Napoleon was there to capture that moment in time.
I have been capturing the DC nightclub and restaurant scene since 2002. The biggest owners and promoters in the city call on Gearshift to capture great video and photography of their events and venues. Marc Barnes, Taz & Masoud run several successful clubs and lounges in the district (Love, The Park and Lima). Their secret is attention to detail and a high quality establishment. Inauguration Day was a happy day. So many people came in to the city to share their joy. It really felt electric all weekend long. Here are a few shots as I worked my way from the Lincoln Memorial towards the Washington Monument.
Gearshift worked with BearingPoint to create web videos for its "New Thinking in Government" campaign. The shoot was around the monuments and downtown area of Washington DC and provided a great backdrop for the campaign. The video was shot in 1080p30p format.
Gearshift was on location at the Donatelli residence for the 2010 campaign Kick-Off/Birthday Party for Washington DC Mayor Adrian Fenty.
Washington, DC is the place for Politics, but it's also known as the East Coast Hollywood, more than 200 plus films have had scenes shot in Washington, D.C. The city has not only the political intrigue, military strategies and investigative journalism, but also all those immediately recognizable monuments and memorials. BBC London hired Gearshift Producer Don Napoleon on their recent documentary film production to assist with location shots. So if you are coming to Washington, DC to shoot a film or documentary and if you need permits, locations and more, Don is the local Fixer, Location Scout and possibly a Driver for your production.
GiGi and Shuggie were selected through Carlyn Davis Casting to appear in a commercial/PSA for eating healthy. Daddy was behind the scenes to capture some photos and HD video. Hopefully the commercial will be out soon!

In an effort to reach out to the community, the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation sponsors the 4th and Life program that brings players from the Washington Redskins, face to face, with local high school football players. London Fletcher, Colt Brennan, Ken Harvey are a few of the players that have given advice to hundreds of students. Gearshift captured and compressed MP4 videos for the Foundation. www.redskins.com
Usher showed up at Zanzibar the day after the election to celebrate Obama's victory. Gearshift was there to capture Usher up-close. This shot is from a Nikon D300 with a 70-200mm f2.8 lens.

The University of the District of Columbia has turned to Gearshift for assistance in getting the message out about all of the courses, activities, campus life and programs that the school has to offer. Most people outside the city have never heard of UDC. The school has a great nursing, law, aeronautics and engineering program. James Arthur Folliard III has arrived, he was born at Reston Hospital Center in Reston, VA at 3:00pm on August 25th, 2008. He is 19.75 inches long and 7.9 pounds. Parents Shuggie and Jim Jr. and sister Gizelle are so happy about our new addition to the family!

Brave New Films launched a new weekly show, Meet the Bloggers, Gearshift TV Producer, Don Napoleon, was hired as the on-site videographer at the US Capitol in Washington, DC assisting with a live on-line teleconference with Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) topics of question, weigh in on the price of gas, its politics, and what the political response should be.

There are a lot of good cameras on the market, in fact most digital slr cameras will be able to produce a great image. With that said, I would focus on getting different lenses. Lens variety is the key to developing great photographs and my first recommendation is to get a 50mm 1.4f lens. This image was shot with a Nikon D80 in natural light with the 50mm 1.4f lens.
